Book review: Bear, by Kiri Lightfoot

Review by Prairie Cudby, age 13

Bear is a thoughtful story about Jasper Robinson-Woods figuring out his life.

Even though I found some parts a bit slow, overall the book was pretty good. It was interesting and realistic reading about Jasper’s journey and accomplishments. His struggles feel real, and by the end, it’s great to see him make new friends and finally start enjoying life.

Even though it can get a little slow at times, the overall message about pushing through tough moments and finding happiness makes it worth the read. I would recommend this book for around ages 13+.

From the adults

Bear was the winner of the 2024 Storylines Tessa Duder Young Adult Award and is described as a powerful, humorous, yet sensitive story of Jasper, a young artist who learns to face his anger.

This young adult fiction is aimed at those aged 13 – 16 years.
